Day one (qualifying session) started like any ordinary day, hot and sunny! Except that halfway into the practices, nature decided to play havoc. Dark and gloomy theme began to overshadow the event. Then came the torrential rain that had everyone scurrying for cover, even for those under the shelters at the grandstands! The winds were pretty strong as well, that those under shelter even had to take out their brollies for added protection... Frankly, having experienced several days of hot and sweaty, I welcomed the refreshing and cooling weather. However, one man's meat is another man's poison, as the weather did not bode well for several drivers, particular one who had to suffer a really bad crash from it.

Apart from the heavy crash which took much time to clear, the rest of the day went well. The wet weather brought much nice photographic opportunities. Cars looked as if they were skating on ice. Many cars skidded including those driven by the more experienced drivers - drifting on wet road is extremely dangerous. Towards the end of the day, the tarmac dried up in time for qualifying rounds.
